The Town of Newmarket is asking for patience as plows make their way through the roadways today combatting heavy snowfall.

The municipality said its trucks are making their way through the municipality. But the denser snowfall does mean that roads will take longer to clear, the municipality said.

“Newmarket crews began plowing roads at 3 a.m. and sidewalks at 5 a.m. It may take longer to complete all routes due to the denser snow,” the town said. “Please be patient and refrain from parking on the street.”

The town experienced substantial snowfall yesterday, with another two to four centimetres expected Feb. 4.

The town’s snow clearing process is to first salt roads and sidewalks, with plowing beginning when more than six centimetres of snow has fallen. The town said it can take up to 16 hours to clear the 624 kilometres of road (both sides) and 364 kilometres of sidewalk in Newmarket.

“Crews will continue into the afternoon until all areas are complete. Due to the warmer overnight temperatures, the snow is denser, which may take crews longer to clear all areas,” the town said.
