York Regional Police have charged three men with carjacking in Richmond Hill.

On Nov. 7 at about 1:30 a.m. three suspects arrived in a grey Acura RDX, with one of the suspects remaining in the vehicle as the others confronted the victim and demanded the keys to his Mercedes G-Wagon and cellphone, police said.

Provinical Carjacking Task Force and York Regional Police identified Thomas Apostolopoulos, 19, of Toronto, Moti Ahmed, 21, of Vaughan, and Andrew Tyler Marin, 22, of Vaughan, as the suspects and have charged them with robbery, disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Police have additionally charged Apostolopoulos with dangerous operation and flight from police officer.

The victim was not seriously injured during the incident and police have recovered his stolen vehicle.

"As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the GTA, local police services have combined resources and established a Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes," a York Regional Police news release said. "This collaborative approach aims to disrupt the networks responsible for violent and high-risk auto thefts and maximize enforcement efforts against criminal organizations."

Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the task force is a collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, and other external agencies, including Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.
