Mohammadmahdi Salehi, of Newmarket, won $100,000 in the Feb. 1 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Mohammadmahdi Salehi couldn’t believe his eyes when he scanned his Lotto 6/49 ticket from the Feb. 1 draw and learned he’d won $100,000 on Encore.

“I was at home when I scanned my Lotto 6/49 ticket using the OLG app. I saw so many zeros. It felt like my brain was playing tricks on me,” the Newmarket man said in an OLG news release. “I asked myself, ‘Is this $1,000? $10,000?’ The longer I looked, the bigger the number got. I was so happy. It was a magical day.”

So far, he has shared the news only with his wife and daughter, who are “overjoyed.”

“It’s a good amount of money. I plan to invest and save it. I’m also going to continue buying my weekly tickets. In fact, I already have my next set in my pocket,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough.
