The Laneway's low-rise condo proposal would bring 51 units to Newmarket

Residents are invited to have their say at a June 29 virtual public planning meeting

Newmarket residents are invited to participate in the Town of Newmarket’s first virtual public planning meeting on June 29 where a proposed 51-unit development known as The Laneway will be presented to council.

The housing project, located just west of Southlake Regional Health Centre, would see two four-storey apartment buildings built at 49 Charles St. and 52 Prospect St., and one nine-unit, three-storey stacked townhouse block go up at 55 and 59 Charles St.

The Laneway development is expected to include a mixture of condo and rental apartment units.

This development is one of seven on the books for the area, which includes The Davis Residences at Bakerfield, a 219-unit condominium complex under construction now at 175 Deerfield Rd.

In addition, you can have your say on another proposed project at 292-294 Court St., where an applicant is proposing to sever the lot that currently features a semi-detached duplex house and replace it with two new single-family detached homes.

A final decision regarding these applications will not be made on June 29. All written and verbal comments from the public will go to town planning staff to consider, and come back with a report at a future committee of the whole or council meeting.

The virtual public planning meeting will take place on Monday, June 29 at 1 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to get involved in the public planning process by submitting written comments or participating in a live deputation through video conferencing during the meeting.
