Taco Bell/KFC in Newmarket closes following fire

An electrical issue caused the fire

A fire has temporarily closed the Taco Bell and KFC at 16599 Yonge St. at Savage Road in Newmarket since Saturday afternoon.

Central York Fire Services responded to the incident at 1:42 p.m. deploying four fire trucks and one command vehicle to the scene with 17 personnel, according to an incident report. The July 13 fire was caused by an electrical issue.

The drive-through of the establishment was closed as the window received extensive damage.

Patrons inside the restaurant were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. The first teams on site reported smoke inside the restaurant and quickly extinguished a fire on an exterior wall.

Firefighters worked in collaboration with York Regional Police, York Region Paramedic Services, and utility companies.

The restaurant will be closed until repairs are made.

Restaurant staff declined to comment.
