The Town of Newmarket is unveiling a new named sponsor for its outdoor skate park.
Telecommunications company telMAX will become the namesake for the park opened in August 2022. To honour the occasion, the town is holding a celebration Sept. 24 for the naming of the park.
“Ollies, kickflips and board slides are coming your way as we celebrate the naming of the telMAX Outdoor Skatepark,” the town said on social media.
The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony with council, as well as skateboarding and scooter demos and lessons by town staff. There will also be complimentary cotton candy, ice cream and gift bags with giveaways.
The outdoor skatepark was opened last year outside of the Magna Centre after years of development, featuring rails, a quarter-pipe and other features for skaters of varying skill levels. It is the town’s first outdoor skatepark.
The company telMAX has entered the community over the past year after purchasing town-owned utility last fall. The company has been expanding a fibre network throughout town.
The town has policy toward getting corporate sponsors for various facilities and events in town. For instance, in last December it announced a five-year deal with Mercedez-Benz Newmarket for the naming of many downtown features.
The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Magna Centre at 800 Mulock Dr.
