Alexander Jolly, 23, of Newmarket pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Nicole Mercer in 2022.

The sentencing of a Newmarket man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a 2022 fatal shooting has once again been postponed.

Court staff confirmed that Alexander Jolly’s case was adjourned to Jan. 15 after a scheduled appearance Nov. 29. Jolly has already entered a guilty plea.

The Newmarket man is said to have fired a gun at 22-year-old Nicole Mercer. Mercer was pronounced deceased at the hospital following the July 2022 incident. He was originally arrested Sept. 9, 2022, and initially charged with second-degree murder and several firearm offences.

The agreed statement of facts said that Jolly and his friends were in his room when Mercer left because of the noise. When she returned and knocked on the door, Jolly pointed the gun and fired.

Mercer was the mother of a five-year-old at the time.

NewmarketToday will update the case as it proceeds.
