Second Newmarket auto repair shop on fire in as many days

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a commercial building Saturday night in the same location as a Thursday night fire

Firefighters battled a blaze at a commercial building in Newmarket tonight in the same plaza as a Thursday night fire.

Billowing white smoke filled the sky above Upper Canada Collision Centre at 25 George St., unit 2, and Davis Drive, east of Yonge Street, at about 9 p.m. Feb. 8.

Central York Fire Services crews had the fire under control by about 11:15 p.m., according to CYFS and York Regional Police officials on the scene.

The building was unoccupied and no injuries are reported.

No immediate cause was determined.

The auto repair shop is a neighbour of Meineke Car Centre, where firefighters were called Thursday, Feb. 6 after smoke was seen in the front administration office at about 11 p.m.

Fire crews forced entry into the building at 69 Davis Dr. to extinguish the blaze and prevent fire and smoke from spreading to adjoining buildings.

The building was also unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown, according to a CYFS incident report on Feb. 7.

More details to come.
