Richmond Hill seniors awarded by province for supporting newcomers, arts

Residents earn Ontario Senior Achievement Awards for community involvement

Three area residents have been recognized by the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility with Ontario Senior Achievement Awards.

Kidambi Raj has volunteered with a variety of cultural and community organizations in Richmond Hill for more than 50 years. He created programs for and promoted the cultural needs of South Indian and Sri Lankan immigrants. He has a passion for sharing cultural heritage with his community.

Yaxian (Sandy) Liu has helped Chinese immigrant organizations and seniors in Scarborough and Richmond Hill for the past 17 years. Thanks to a network of social workers, she assists seniors with renewing their permanent resident or health cards and applying for benefits and programs. In addition, Liu organizes numerous social, learning and physical activities with Asian associations.

Anna Maria Caporiccio has spent more than 40 years volunteering with arts, culture and community organizations in Richmond Hill. She was successful in securing a Horizons Grant of Canada, allowing for a variety of programs and classes to be offered to seniors.
