A dessert shop in Richmond Hill’s Hillcrest Mall was temporarily closed following multiple charges by York Region Public Health inspectors last week.

Marry Me Mochi, a cafe and doughnut shop at 9350 Yonge St. received an HPPA closure order and charges on Jan. 31. A York Region Public Health inspection report showed that the cafe was charged with eight separate violations.

These included: failing to demonstrate proper food hygiene practices to prevent contamination, not adequately supplying handwashing stations, failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration, failing to provide adequate potable water supply, failing to ensure the facility surfaces were cleaned and sanitized as necessary, failing to ensure the presence of a certified food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation, not providing the name, contact information or location in a notice of intention to commence food premises and failing to supply water adequate for the operation of the premises.

Public health inspectors provided food handler education on-site during last Friday’s inspection and an HPPA section 13 closure order was issued.

There is currently no information on when re-inspection will take place or when the establishment will re-open.

York Region Public Health states the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
