Registration is now open for the first ever Run for Newmarket, organized by the local chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association.
The date for the run is Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022. It will be held at Fairy Lake with 10 km and 5 km run options as well as a 1 km fun walk.
The national Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has been organizing charity runs for several years but this one will be a first for the local Newmarket chapter.
“As a local Newmarket chapter, we are also organizing Run for Newmarket this fall,” one of the organizers Salman Ahmad said previously. “The idea behind it is to raise funds for local charities and non-profit organizations.”
Funds raised through the run in October will go toward Newmarket Food Pantry and Blue Door shelters. The group hopes to fundraise for a different local organization each year.
Registration began on July 15 and runners and walkers can now sign up for the event online. It costs $30 for the 10 km and $20 for the 5 km. Supporters can also make a donation through the website.
The first 100 people to register for the run will receive a free Run for Newmarket t-shirt.
