Canadian Mental Health Association, York Region and South Simcoe received a boost from Newmarket and area bank branches to support residents on their mental health journey.

York Region RBC Wealth Management branches collectively donated $7,500 to support mental health programs.

The cheque was presented to Joshua Campbell, CMHA board member.

“Over the past year, the demand for community-based mental health programs and services has increased in our community,” Devon Mayor, communciation coordinator for CMHA York and South Simcoe, said.

The organization said the money will support a number of their programs, including MOBYSS (Mobile York South Simcoe), the only mobile mental health clinic for youth aged 12 to 25 in Ontario.

The donation will also help support CMHA’s youth wellness programs that are delivered in schools in York Region.

According to the organization, the funding could also benefit the family caregiver education support group for family members supporting loved ones with mental illness, offering education, resources and action plans for informed decision making.

“We are deeply grateful for RBC Wealth Management’s collective support for mental health and are inspired by their generosity,” Mayor said.

Five representatives from local RBC wealth management branches—Marco Lofranco, Peter Hicks, Ted Barlow, Anna Polounina, and Stephen Harrop—were on hand for the cheque presentation.
