Queen Street bridge closed today for Hydro One work

Projects on the bridge are expected to continue through 2026

The Town of Newmarket closed a section of Queen Street today for a conductor removal by Hydro One.

The conductor removal was expected to take four hours, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., after which traffic will open for westbound traffic only.

The ongoing repair work on the bridge is needed after regulatory inspections determined the superstructure required replacing, the town said.

“Work on the bridge will ensure it continues to be safe for all to use while connecting the community to the heart of Newmarket.”

Projects on the bridge are expected to continue through 2026. Over the next couple of months, Bell will be installing a conduit along Queen Street between Concession Street and Prospect Street, and then do cable placement work throughout 2024.

In spring 2025, the town expects to commence construction to replace Queen Street bridge, which will temporarily close it and take about a year to complete.
