York Regional Police are investigating after two geese were found dead at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons yesterday morning.

A concerned citizen reported finding the birds at around 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 20, according to Const. Laura Nicolle.

It's believed the geese died the previous night.

The incident is being looked at as possible animal cruelty, however, police are still investigating and there is no evidence yet of what happened, Nicolle said.

Police are seeking video surveillance footage from the area and any other information regarding this case.

Canada Geese are protected by the national Migratory Birds Convention Act, which prohibits people from harming these birds except under specified conditions.
