Aurora GO is set to undergo some overnight construction work next month, as Metrolinx continues to prepare for all-day two-way GO.
Metrolinx's contractor, Etobicoke-based Grascan Construction Ltd., will be doing overnight track maintenance along the railway corridor from Jan. 20 to 31.
The work will involve installing track signal equipment, as well as signal bungalows, signal towers, radio towers, and other equipment structures.
Those pieces of equipment are being put in at several locations near Wellington Street East, Centre Street, the west parking lot at Aurora GO, and adjacent to the corridor by Birch Court as indicated on the map.
The track maintenance is being done ahead of future work on the track, as Metrolinx continues working on bringing all-day two-way GO service to Aurora and the Barrie line.
Metrolinx warns nearby residents can expect to experience construction noise, including high rail boom trucks, pickup trucks, dump trucks, hydraulic excavators, and loader skid steers.
Sound and air monitoring technology will be in place to make sure noise levels do not exceed a 65-decibel limit, with lights set to be pointing away from houses to minimize light pollution.
“We understand that we are conducting track work in a residential area and that overnight work is not ideal,” Metrolinx said in a news release. “We appreciate your patience and will complete this critical work as efficiently as possible to get things back to normal for you.”
The work will occur Jan. 20 to 31, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
