The Ontario government is investing up to $200,000 to support the planning and development of the new York Region Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Hub to improve access to mental health and addictions services in the region and better connect patients to community mental health and addictions supports.
The hub will serve as a 24/7 resource for people experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis, providing an alternative option to hospital emergency departments. Patients and their families will have access to crisis, stabilization and withdrawal beds, as well as coordinated access to ongoing community-based care.
“The York Region Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Hub will make a significant difference for our community in York Region by targeting specific gaps in mental health and addictions services,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health for Ontario and MPP for Newmarket-Aurora.
“Supporting innovative projects like this is part of our government’s plan to build a comprehensive and connected mental health and addictions system that offers Ontarians better access to high quality care, when and where they need it.”
Earlier this year, the government launched its Roadmap to Wellness—a comprehensive plan to build Ontario’s mental health and addictions system. As part of this plan, the government has made mental health a priority and continues to invest in more on the ground services across Ontario. This includes investments to create new supports and expand programs in several priority areas right here in York Region.
