A GO Train rolls through Newmarket.

There will be no weekend GO Train service on the Barrie line due to repairs and upgrades taking place between Newmarket and Aurora.

Service will pause on the evening of Friday, Sept. 9 until the end of service on Sunday, Sept. 11. This applies to the entire Barrie line from Allandale Waterfront to Union Station.

Trains have been cancelled to allow for maintenance work and upgrades on the track between the Newmarket GO and Aurora GO stations.

"We’re upgrading railway crossings, removal and installation of culverts, performing vegetation removal and track maintenance, which will support significant service improvements on the Barrie line. This work can only be done when trains are not running," Metrolinx said in service update.

On Friday, the train trip leaving Union Station at 8:53 p.m. has been extended and will make all stops to Allandale Waterfront. The trip from Union at 10:53 p.m. has been cancelled. A bus trip leaving at 10:22 p.m. will replace it.

On Saturday, the northbound buses will run at 11:12 a.m., 2:02 p.m., 5:07 p.m., 8:22 p.m., 9:22 p.m. and 10:22 p.m. These will leave from Union Station and make stops at Rutherford, Maple, King City, Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwillimbury GO stations. You can transfer at East Gwillimbury to continue north to Allandale Waterfront.

For southbound trips on Saturday, the regular weekend GO bus schedule between Allandale Waterfront and East Gwillimbury will be running. Then additional buses will be running from East Gwillimbury to Union. These will depart at 7:35 a.m., 8:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m., 2:50 p.m., 5:50 p.m., 8:50 p.m. and make stops at Newmarket, Aurora, King City, Maple and Rutherford GO stations, then express to Union Station Bus Terminal.

There will also be some express buses between Aurora and Union. Riders are encouraged to check the schedule before heading out, especially if they have connections.

Regular train service will resume Monday morning.
