No one was injured in a drive-by shooting in Aurora this morning in the area of Bayview Avenue and St. John's Sideroad.

York Regional Police responded to a report of gunshots on Major Crescent, which is a residential street, at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16.

When officers arrived, they found a burgundy sport utility vehicle on the roadway damaged with bullet holes.

A 56-year-old Aurora woman who had been driving the SUV was not injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers also found bullet holes in some nearby houses, as well as shell casings on the ground.

Based on their investigation so far, police believe that the suspect drove a white Honda CRV into the residential neighbourhood, fired on the other vehicle and fled before police could arrive.

The attack appears to have been targeted, but local residents can expect an increased police presence for the time being.

Investigators are asking for anyone who witnessed the shooting and hasn't spoken with police yet, or anyone with surveillance footage, to call them at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7141. Digital footage can also be submitted online at this link:  https://yrp.ca.evidence.com/axon/citizen/public/20-404801
