Crews extinguished the basement fire, which broke out in a house on Preston Thompson Place Thursday night.

Central York Fire Services quickly extinguished a basement fire in Aurora on Thursday evening.

Crews were called around 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 3 about a fire in a house on Preston Thompson Place in southwest Aurora, according to an incident report.

When they arrived on the scene, the unit reported seeing smoke from the front of the house on the first and second floor.

CYFS reports the fire was caused by “improper use of matches.”

A search of the house confirmed all occupants had already exited. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Crews found a fire burning in the basement, and it was quickly extinguished.

The road was closed as crews worked, but has since reopened, with the fire being fully extinguished.

The department sent six trucks, and a chief officer. Mutual aid was not required, though CYFS worked with York Regional Police, York Emergency Medical Services (EMA), Alectra Utilities, and Enbridge Gas during the incident.

Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services provided coverage in the CYFS area while the fire was underway.
