Newmarket's Main Street is transforming into an outdoor winter destination this weekend when it closes to pedestrians for live music and performances, activities for all ages, on-street bar, and fireside and igloo lounges.
Ice Lounge on Main takes place Feb. 21 to 23 on the downtown street that will become a fully licensed pedestrian zone from Water Street to Park Avenue.
The event, presented by Mercedes-Benz Newmarket, features fireside and igloo lounges, along with free hot chocolate, soup and roasted marshmallows.
New features this year include a daytime DJ, kids activities and live local music all night. The Postmark Hotel on Main will be offering free hot chocolate and soup to guests as part of the event.
There will also be a mini tube slide on Botsford Street, photo spots, and a lounge with life-like Arctic animal statues.
The event runs from noon to 10 p.m. Feb. 21, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 22 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 23.
Main Street boasts an eclectic restaurant scene, or you can get a drink at the outdoor bar and take it with you as you explore all that the event has to offer. During the event, you are permitted to enjoy alcohol purchased along Main Street outdoors throughout the event area.
Also, if you spend $50 or more at a Main Street businesses, you have a chance of winning one of five grand prizes valued at over $500. The first 125 people who enter a Choose Local contest each day will receive a $25 Choose Local prepaid VISA gift card.
