Photographer Greg King takes you on a tour of Newmarket's arts and entertainment scene last month, from classical, jazz, big band and Celtic musical performances to spoken words

April Arts Scene in Review:

  • The Lord Said! A performance by the Tapestry Chamber Choir with the York Chamber Ensemble at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church April 7.
  • Sir William Mulock Secondary School presented Nouveau Orleans with the After Hours Big Band at the Aurora Cultural Centre April 13. Three of the school's ensembles performed: Half Past 12, My Heart Your Elbow and Brass5.
  • Steve Romolo and David Toms presented an evening of jazz at Cachet Restaurant April 20. Cachet features jazz every weekend.
  • Blues musician Glenn Marais played at Arthurs Landing April 26 accompanied by Craig Riley.
  • The Newmarket Folk Society presented Rant Maggie Rant, a multi-award winning band that sticks close to the musical roots of the Celtic nations, at the Newmarket Legion April 27.
  • The Writers Community of York Region held its monthly open mic at Cardinal Press April 28. Local writers present samples of their works.
  • As part of the Visual Performing Arts Newmarket concert series jazz, violinist Drew Jurecka and his trio performed at Newmarket Theatre April 28.
