Newmarket streets closing for return of Easter Seals run

Portions of Timothy Street, Doug Duncan Drive, Water Street to shut down for annual event Sunday morning

Newmarket is closing several downtown streets this Sunday as area residents raise money for Easter Seals in an annual run.

Easter Seals is holding a 10k and 5k walk/run throughout Newmarket, raising money to help the charity in its efforts to improve the lives of youth with disabilities. The town will be closing portions of Timothy Street, Doug Duncan Drive and Water Street between 6 a.m. and noon May 28 to make way for the run.

Timothy will be closed between Main Street and Prospect Street. Doug Duncan Drive will be closed between Water and Timothy. Water will be closed between Main and Prospect Street.

For a detour route, the town recommends travelling along Queen to Main Street.

The annual event has run for 45 years, raising a total of about $3.5 million for Easter Seals. 

"The run has broken down barriers, changed attitudes, and paved the way toward a better future for individuals with disabilities in York Region and beyond," the event's website says.
