Ahh yes, it has prompted many an eye roll, head shake, sigh of impatience, and, most certainly, muttered curse from those obliged to traverse it.
Yonge Street, Newmarket.
And now it has earned the dubious honour of ranking in the top five CAA Worst Roads regional list for York, Halton, Peel and Durham for 2019.
Yonge Street Newmarket is ranked fourth out of the five worst roads.
The list is compiled based on public voting, naming and shaming roads for anything from potholes and deteriorating pavement, to poor or non-existent cycling or walking infrastructure and poor road signs.
To be fair, Yonge Street has been the site of a lengthy construction project for the Viva Rapidway transit, with work beginning more than four years ago.
The other four worst regional roads include, ranking first, Carnegie Beach Road in Scugog, Eglington Avenue West in Mississauga, Highway 404 in Richmond Hill, and Speers Road in Oakville.
Eglinton Avenue East in Toronto was voted the worst road in all of Ontario.
CAA says the 16-year-old campaign has helped improve Ontario's worst roads by drawing attention to the bumpiest rides, encouraging municipalities to pay attention to those roads people vote for.
