The Town of Newmarket is inviting residents and businesses to share their vision and learn more about the town's plan for the future at a public information centre tomorrow, Aug. 29.
The event, at the Old Town Hall on 460 Botsford St. from 1 to 7 p.m., will highlight various aspects of the ongoing review of the town’s guiding planning document, including housing, transportation, parks, climate change and more.
“Your ideas and comments are important,” Deputy Mayor Tom Vegh said across social media this week.
The municipality has consulted on the official plan for more than a year, with the new version expected for adoption next year. The plan outlines municipal planning policy and the direction of various parts of the community.
The drop-in public information centre will feature booths highlighting parts of the plan, ranging from affordable housing to parks to infrastructure to jobs and employment.
There is also a full schedule of speakers throughout the day. Speeches will cover topics like revitalizing Newmarket’s downtown, designing parks and building a greener Newmarket.
The municipality will serve light refreshments and collect feedback. Other activities will also be on offer from LEGO modelling to show and tell artifacts from the Elman W. Campbell Museum. There will also be an unveiling of a canvas from artist Jeff Nye at 1 p.m. capturing “the community’s vision for the future of Newmarket.”
“Shape and plan for Newmarket’s future,” the municipality said on social media.
