NEWMARKET INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ONE ACT PLAYS

The Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays (NIFOAP) Awards were just announced — this year for the first time decided by an adjudicator, Janet Kish, who is a sanctioned adjudicator and travels the Canadian theatre world now in that capacity adding her expertise, knowledge and this case opinion on all things theatrical.
Said Kish of her experience with the festival, “I was impressed by the quality of the scripts and the extensive commitment, enthusiasm and passion from everyone involved. It was an inspiring and fun experience. I wish you good mojo as you head toward your 2025 festival.”
At a ceremony held at Newmarket’s Hungry Brew Hops, Janet announced the nominees and winners of the 2024 NIFOAP Awards and here they are:
Best Actor in a Male Role
- Fabian Levy-Hara as John in Phone Solicitor
- Peter Shipston as Blake in The Third Rule
- Aidan Roy as Butch in House of the Holy Moment (winner)
- Aaron Clapperton as Kyle in Queen Mari’s Castle: Live!
Best Actor in a Female Role
- Arlene Murchison Doggart as Henrietta in House of the Holy Moment
- Alya Sakron as Naomi in The Nature of the Stars
- Puneet Kuldeep-Bajwa as Lila in Queen Mari’s Castle: Live! (winner)
- Julie Lennick as Suzanne in Queen Mari’s Castle: Live!
Outstanding Director
- Kay Valentine for Phone Solicitor
- Joan Burrows for The Third Rule (winner)
- Lee Clements for The Next Move
- Erika MacNeil for Queen Mari’s Castle: Live!
Outstanding Script
- Phone Solicitor by Brad Dixon
- The Third Rule by Dan Aibel (winner)
