Newmarket gets McHappy today to support charities

Councillors, firefighters, community members and more came out in support of McDonald's Canada's annual fundraising McHappy Day

Newmarket council members, police officers, firefighters were among the volunteers who showed up in support of McHappy Day today at Newmarket McDonald's restaurants.

All day today any menu items sold at McDonald's will support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Proceeds from some Newmarket locations will also support Southlake Regional Health Centre's maternal child program.

"McHappy Day is an incredibly special day for us at McDonald’s Canada. From our independent franchisees and their crew, suppliers, and staff, we are so incredibly proud to come together alongside Canadians to support RMHC and other local children’s charities," said Michèle Boudria, president and CEO of McDonald’s Canada.

Mayor John Taylor was among the supporters taking part at the McDonald's at Yonge and Eagle streets. He took a shift at the drive-thru handing out food and encouraging people to make a donation for McHappy Day.

Councillors Bob Kwapis, Trevor Morrison, Kelly Broome and Christina Bisanz were also helping out at that location throughout the day.

NewmarketToday editor Debora Kelly also did her part selling socks, re-useable bags and coupon books in the drive-thru line, all in support of McHappy Day.

Over at the location by Davis Drive and Leslie Street, councillors Victor Woodhouse and Grace Simon were joined by members of Central York Fire Services and York Region Paramedic Services, all helping out at the drive-thru and behind the counter in the store.

Officers from York Regional Police were out at various locations in the region, including at Newmarket restaurants, to help raise money as well.

Members of the community came out to show their support. Drive-thru lines were busy at both locations throughout the day and customers were lined up.

McHappy Day continues for the rest of the day and you can still take part by ordering any menu item in the restaurant, in the drive-thru, or through delivery apps with all proceeds of the day going to the charities.
