Newmarket day care, Richmond Hill retirement home, Markham restaurant charged with food safety violations

Leslie Street Day Care Centre, Spring Living Retirement Community Hilltop Place, and Ritzy Palace restaurant charged by York Region public health inspectors last week

York Region Public Health inspectors charged a day care in Newmarket, a retirement home in Richmond Hill, and a restaurant in Markham with food safety violations last week.

Leslie Street Day Care Centre at 1111 Stellar Dr., unit nine, was charged with failure to ensure the presence of a food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation on July 15.

A report on non-compliance notes failure to protect food from contamination or adulteration and failure to ensure the presence of a certified food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation.

Food handler education was provided on-site, a proof of public health sign was posted, and a ticket was served.

Public health inspectors conducted a re-inspection on July 17 and found the day care within satisfactory compliance. 

Spring Living Retirement Community Hilltop Place at 1000 Elgin Mills Road E. was charged with food premise not maintained with a smooth floor surface where utensils were cleaned on July 19.

A report on non-compliance notes failure to ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair.

Food handler education was provided on-site, a proof of public health sign was posted and a ticket was served. 

Ritzy Palace at 7301 Woodbine Ave., in Markham was charged with food premise not maintained with food handling room in sanitary condition and failure to protect against entry of pests on July 16. 

A report on non-compliance notes failure to ensure the facility surface was cleaned as necessary, failure to provide adequate protection against the entrance of pests, and failure to maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition.

Food handler education was provided on-site, a ticket was served and a re-inspection will be conducted later. 

York Region Public Health states the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
