The Town of Newmarket is inviting residents to celebrate and recognize the contributions of persons with disabilities through a free event this month.

In honour of National Accessibility Awareness week, the town will be hosting a day of accessible fun at the Recreation Youth Centre and telMAX Indoor Skate Park May 30. Residents can enjoy trying wheelchair basketball and sledge hockey, a magic show and trying children’s treatment network equipment.

It is all in honour of the national week, celebrated from May 26 to June 1.

“Let’s help build a world where everyone can participate fully,” the town said on social media.

The national week recognizes the contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities in the community, the municipality said. It also recognizes the works of allies and communities that are removing barriers.

“National AccessAbility Awareness Week recognizes the valuable contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities in the community,” the town said. “It also recognizes the work of allies, organizations and communities that are removing barriers.”

The event will also feature a music therapy workshop for participants to explore movement, cognition emotion and speech needs using music. Refreshments will also be provided during the event.

The celebration will run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
