Newmarket Canada Day festivities include concerts, fireworks

The town is organizing a full slate of in-person celebrations at Riverwalk Commons, George Richardson Park for first time in three years

Newmarket is planning a full slate of activities for Canada Day for the first time in three years, including concerts, fireworks, buskers and more at the Riverwalk Common and George Richardson Park.The town is planning to run daytime celebrations at the Riverwalk Commons and follow that up with nighttime fireworks at George Richardson Park July 1. 

This will be the first time the town runs fully in-person Canada Day events in three years, with the pandemic impacting previous years. Last year’s fireworks display was drive-in only

The town will have festivities at the Riverwalk Commons from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This includes concerts from the bands Ear Candy and Blush, vendors and roaming entertainment. The Elman W. Campbell Museum will also be running a Canada Day open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.Activities will then shift to George Richardson Park from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The Newmarket Citizens' Band will open the show, followed by a concert from the band Switchbeat. The fireworks display will take place from 10:10 to 10:30 p.m.Tim Hortons is also running a contest for free coffee for a year, with those who attend in both the daytime and evening getting a chance to submit a ballot. Participants must be Newmarket residents.
