Thanks to Newmarket residents, 2019 got off to a great start in helping Canadian Blood Services (CBS) maintain a healthy whole blood inventory for local patients in need.

Donation events in January saw local donors give 224 units of blood, pushing CBS to 115 per cent of its target, territory manager of donor relations Malvika Arun said.

But since blood products have a limited shelf life, the demand for blood never stops. The products are needed by cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders who rely on blood transfusions every day.

To help ensure patients’ needs are met, Newmarket residents are invited to book an appointment or drop-in to donate at the upcoming Friday, Feb. 22 clinic at the Newmarket Community Centre, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. from 4 to 7 p.m.
