York Regional Police is reporting that 1,500 people in Newmarket and Aurora are without power, and that means traffic lights won't work.

"Please treat (traffic lights) as a four-way stop. Roads are already difficult with blowing snow," York police said on social media at 4:17 p.m. today, Feb. 27. "Be careful out there."

The power outage also affects about 6,500 people in Whitchurch-Stouffville, police said.

Power is expected to be restored about 6:15 p.m. today.
