The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is officially unveiling a newly constructed wetland at the Rogers Reservoir Conservation Area tomorrow.
The community is invited to the celebrations of the first of many projects to be completed by LSRCA with funding provided by the Ecological Offsetting Program. The program is essential in maintaining the health of Lake Simcoe by providing a consistent approach to protect natural heritage features within the watershed.
During the opening ceremonies, beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, project partners will be recognized, followed by a ribbon cutting and free Halloween-themed activities for the whole family.
A community tree planting takes place at 11 a.m., with children’s activities, including a scavenger hunt, getting underway at 11:30 a.m.
The 84-hectare Rogers Reservoir Conservation Area is a great place to watch nesting birds, cast a fishing line, and cycle along trails that are part of the Nokiidaa Trail system linking Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwillimbury.
The concrete lock and its swing bridge are remnants of a ‘ghost' canal system built and abandoned in the early 1900s, without ever having been used.
Limited parking is available at the Yonge Street and Mount Albert Road entrance.
