Newmarket's electric vehicle owners can be assured of more boosting points with Ivy Charging Network announcing the completion of 32 new stations.
The joint Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation venture has constructed stations across Newmarket, Aurora, Port Hope, Carleton Place, Orillia and the County of Haliburton over the past several months. The "level 2" network offers motorists a place to park and charge across the municipalities, for those “not in a rush.”
“We thank our municipal partners for choosing Ivy to help them bring electric vehicle charging infrastructure to their communities,” Ivy Charging Network general manager Michael Kitchen said. “By expanding our network to offer level 2 chargers, we will ensure that EV drivers today and, in the future, have a trusted network to get them where they need to go.”
Newmarket had four stations installed last August, situated at the Riverwalk Commons, the Old Town Hall, the Magna Centre and the municipal offices. Aurora also received 18 of the new chargers last fall. Separately, York Region has also brought another 35 chargers online at municipal facilities meant to provide for staff and the public.
The chargers were funded through a partnership with Natural Resources Canada, providing repayable contributions to help build the new network.
“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more accessible for Canadians from coast to coast to coast,” Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson said.
The companies are expanding the network with more charging stations planned to offer a quicker boost for drivers on the go. One such site is planned in Newmarket at the Upper Canada Mall area, according to the Ivy network website.
“Once built, Ivy’s charge and go network will be one of Ontario’s largest and most connected with approximately 60 locations and over 150 level 3 chargers,” Ivy said in a news release."
