The first residents of Newmarket’s new affordable rental apartment building are getting welcomed into their new homes this month.
The Rose Corporation has now launched The Bakerfield at 195 Deerfield Rd., near Davis Drive and Yonge Street. The 216-unit apartment building is designed to be purpose-built rental after receiving millions in government support for construction.
Rose Corporation president Daniel Berhozl said they are “excited to introduce a new way of rental living in Newmarket.”
“Not only does it deliver much needed housing in the community, but also provides residents with an elevated rental experience that previously did not exist in Newmarket,” he said in a news release.
The apartment has been in the works for several years, with construction starting in March 2020. The federal government announced $79 million in financing in 2020 to help get the project online.
The units range from one to three bedrooms, with prices from $2,240 to $3,380, according to the apartment website. That includes internet and access to amenities such as an outdoor terrace, movie theatre, games room, co-work space, pet spa, kids zone and more.
“We are experiencing strong demand and overwhelmingly positive feedback from our first Bakerfield residents," Berholz said.

The building is within walking distance of a shopping plaza, as well as Upper Canada Mall and public transit.
The Bakerfield is the second phase of a 6.8-acre planned community that will include more than 800 purpose-built rental and condominium suites over the next few years. The corporation is also working to build a 218-unit high-rise condo known as The Davis Residences at Bakerfield, which had prices starting in the $400,000s.
The Rose Corporation has multiple projects in the works in Newmarket and also opened a rental building at 212 Davis Dr. in 2017.
