A Bradford resident and Southlake Regional Health Centre donor and supporter is one of 13 lucky winners in the June 21 Ontario-wide Split the Pot lottery grand prize draw, taking home nearly $23,000.
“I couldn’t believe it!” said Sandra N, who had just celebrated her daughter’s wedding a week before her big win. After receiving the message from a Split the Pot representative, she realized she won but was shocked to learn the total.
“I didn’t expect it to be this much.”
Sandra spent 28 years living in Newmarket, most of that time close to Southlake Regional Health Centre. Both her daughters and grandson were born at Southlake, as well as Sandra herself being a grateful patient. For Sandra, supporting her local hospital through the lottery was a win-win.
“I buy tickets through the hospital because you’re giving back to the community. I’d rather support local hospitals more than anything else,” said Sandra.
Tickets are on sale now for the current Split the Pot Lottery until the final ticket deadline on Sept. 18, with weekly early bird draws (and over 40 possible winners) leading up to the grand prize draw. Thirteen winners will split the final payout – estimated to grow to $1.2 million.
Split the Pot Lottery supports community health care in Ontario, with over 60 hospital partners across the province — the largest collaborative hospital fundraising initiative of its kind in the country (licensed by Grand River Hospital Foundation). Proceeds from every ticket sold can either be split among participating Ontario hospitals or be directed to a participating hospital of choice, like Southlake.
“Being at Southlake quite often, I know the care and the staff are amazing. I know how important it is to have Southlake in our community. They work hard and we need them,” says Sandra.
