A large-scale outage is affecting Bell internet customers in Newmarket and Holland Landing after fibre cables were cut yesterday during road construction on Yonge Street in Newmarket.
“Yesterday we experienced a major fibre cut. Our teams worked through the night and continue to work as quickly as possible to conduct the repair work required to restore services," said Jacqueline Michelis, Bell senior communications manager. "We thank customers for their continued patience.”
The internet outage occurred just before 1 p.m. April 2, and is not expected to be resolved until between 10 p.m. Thursday, April 4 and 2 a.m. Friday, April 5, according to the website.
Multiple Bell service vehicles were on the scene this afternoon on Yonge in front of Upper Canada Mall.
The Regional Municipality of York is in the midst of a major road-widening project on Yonge, north of Davis Drive. Utilities all along the road have to be moved to make way for the widening.
Further details will be provided when available.
