Following the success of last year's summer fundraising event, Inn From the Cold is holding its second annual Golf Day this July to raise funds for the not-for-profit organization in Newmarket.
The event takes place Wednesday, July 6 at Lebovic Golf Course in Aurora.
"Most people who love golf are really excited to golf at Lebovic Golf Club, so there's a lot of enthusiasm about that," said Ann Watson, executive director at Inn From the Cold.
Proceeds will go toward the organization's programs. It hopes to raise $30,000, she said.
The organization is always looking for a mix of ways to raise funds and one of them is through events that are a good way to raise awareness, said Watson. Many not-for-profit organizations hold golf events, so it's "not a unique offering," but for those who want to support Newmarket's homeless shelter and programs, it's a great way to do it.
"It's an opportunity to get together with good friends or people you work with, enjoy a day and at the same time be giving back."
Summer is typically a slow time for not-for-profits in terms of fundraising, Watson said, and because the organization's name references cold weather, many think it only operates as a seasonal shelter, but it provides many programs and since the pandemic hit, its season has been extended to operate 12 months per year.
"Our work has really expanded over the last few years and therefore so too have our fundraising needs."
Of the 132 available spots, 56 are still available. The cost is $250 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, two meals, snacks, and three drink tickets.
Registrants will also receive two complimentary, non-transferable rounds of golf that may be used in any two-month interval during the 2022 golf season.
Along with main sponsor Lebovic Golf Club, hole sponsors include Hudvin Mechanical, Hotwheelz, Anthony Petruccelli, BMO Nesbitt Burns, in memory of Gary and Susan Murphy, Gentec International, Investia Financial Services Inc., Riverwalk Wealth and B & B Automotive Inc.
