A heat warning remains in effect for Newmarket and Northern York Region until Saturday, Environment Canada warns today, but you can beat the heat and stay cool at a Newmarket facility, swimming pool, water feature or splash pad.
The Town of Newmarket reminds residents that the best defence against heat-related illness is prevention. Take precautions when going outdoors, limit heat exposure if possible and stay hydrated.

A hot and humid airmass is expected to remain in place into Saturday. Daytime maximum temperatures into the low 30s with humidex values near 40C can be expected this afternoon.
Overnight minimum temperatures will remain near 20C providing little relief.
On Saturday, temperatures will remain near 30C with humidex values in the upper 30s, however, with the passage of a cold front, cooler temperatures and lower humidity is expected for the remainder of the weekend.
Extreme heat affects everyone, the weather agency said.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
