Grey Goat, Minami Sushi, NTR in Newmarket charged with COVID-19 violations

Three Newmarket businesses are among the 19 charges laid in York Region for bushiness and individuals violating COVID-19 rules in the past two weeks.

Grey Goat Pub + Grill at 74 Main St. was charged by York Region Public Health for not having a COVID-19 safety plan and for not maintaining a list of contacts. 

Minami Sushi at 883 Mulock Dr. was also charged for not having a safety plan and for not actively screening staff. 

National Training Rinks, located at 1155 Stellar Dr., was charged for not enforcing masking rules. 

In total, 19 charges laid between Dec. 13, 2021 and Jan. 2, 2022. During that time, members of the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force carried out inspections at 929 businesses, resulting in 462 compliance education activities and the charges. 

Town of Newmarket bylaw officers conducted 10 inspections and 10 compliance education activities during that time. 

Two businesses in Georgina were charged for not following COVID-19 measures. 

Tim Hortons at 24266 Woodbine Ave. in Georgina was charged for not updating its safety plan, improper masking and failing to check vaccination status of their customers. Wendy's at 23600 Woodbine Ave. was also charged for not updating its safety plan. 

In Aurora, two businesses were charged for COVID-19 offences. 

Rosie's Bar, located at 15474 Yonge St., was charged for a lack of an updated safety plan, failure to actively screen staff, no contact list, and failure to wear a mask. Cafe Alexandra, located at 555 William Graham Dr., was charged for not maintaining a contact list and improper masking. 

One Vaughan business, Punjaabi Grand Indian Buffet, at 150 Windflower Gate was charged for not having a COVID-19 safety plan and not actively screening staff. 

Meanwhile in Markham, three businesses were charged for violating COVID-19 reopening rules. 

Subway at Unit 5 – 7080 Warden Ave. was charged for not updating its safety plan, while WinCo Foodmart at 3155 Hwy 7 East was charged for being over capacity. 

Café de Hong Kong, located at 11 Fairburn Dr. Unit 12-15, was issued one charge for multiple COVID-19 offences. They were charged for not updating their COVID-19 safety plan, not maintaining a contact tracing list, failing to ensure customers were distanced while waiting in line, and failing to check customers vaccination status at the point of entry. 

In total 11 charges were laid by York Region Public Health and eight were issued by York Region Transit.
