Nine Canadian skaters are competing in the Warsaw Cup this weekend, with Newmarket’s own Gabrielle Daleman as the only entry for Canada in the women's category.
The 23-year-old Olympian medallist is coached by Lee Barkell at the Granite Club in Toronto.
Most recently, she placed eighth in the 2021 Autumn Classic International and in 2018 took home a gold medal in the team event at the Olympics.
She is hitting the ice in Warsaw, Poland for the Warsaw Cup, which Skate Canada calls “the penultimate event in the 2021-2022 Figure Skating Challenger Series,” taking place from Nov. 18 to 20.
Daleman will be joined by eight other Canadian skaters.
Wesley Chiu, 16, of Richmond, B.C. will skate in the men’s category. along with Stephen Gogolev, 17, of Toronto.
In the pairs category, Thierry Ferland, 24, and Lori-Ann Matte, 22, both of Levis, Que. will compete, as well as 38-year-old Deanna Stellato Dudek of Park Ridge, U.S. and 29-year-old Maxime Deschamps of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.
The final entry for Canada is 22-year-old Molly Lanaghan of Doncaster, U.K., and 24-year-old Dmitre Razgulajevs of Ajax. The pair will be competing in ice dance.
The women’s short program began this morning with Daleman placing fifth.
The next women’s event will be the free skate, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. Warsaw time or 7 a.m. ET.
