Visitors to Lake Wilcox Park in Oak Ridges must pay for parking from April 1 to Sept. 30, however free parking permits for the park and community centre are now available for Richmond Hill residents.

The City of Richmond Hill is reminding residents that last year’s permits have expired and a new permit is required to avoid a parking ticket.

Parking for non-residents and those without permits costs $4 per hour at the Oak Ridges Community Centre, skate park and north gravel lots. Parking in the main parking lot at the Lake Wilcox splash pad costs $7 per hour.

Weekend parking on neighbouring Lake Wilcox Park streets is restricted to residents and their guests with a permit. Permit parking is in effect seven days a week on Bayview Park Lane, the west end of Dariole Drive and Sandbanks Drive. Street parking permits are available for residents who live in the area.

"As one of the city’s destination parks, Lake Wilcox Park offers beautiful waterfront scenery and family-friendly amenities that attract many visitors from Richmond Hill and afar. Pay parking helps ensure visitors from outside the city contribute to park monitoring and maintenance," a city news release states.

During spring and summer, carpooling is encouraged to help manage traffic.

More information on parking, including obtaining your free Lake Wilcox Park resident permit, is available online at RichmondHill.ca/Parking. For other parking-related questions, contact the city’s parking team at 905-771-8860 or [email protected].
