Murray Mainprize of Keswick will use his $5-million win in the LOTTO 6/49 Classic Jackpot to retire.
The 62-year-old initially planned to take some time off work but decided to retire instead. “I’m going to miss my crew,” he said.
With more free time on his hands, Murray hopes do a bit more fishing. “I don’t know how to describe it – it’s so surreal,” he said.
The father of two said he has been playing the lottery since the introduction of LOTTARIO. He’s played LOTTO 6/49 weekly for a few years.
“It’s part of my regular Sunday routine,” said Murray while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall.
When the film industry retiree checked his ticket and saw the words ‘Big Winner’ he thought he won $5,000 at first. “Then I realized there were way too many zeroes. I was stunned and thought, ‘Is this a dream?’ I was floating on cloud nine!”
Murray told his wife about his big win, and she didn’t believe him at first. “I shared the news with the rest of my family and we celebrated together over the long weekend,” he smiled.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shop Rite Convenience on Baseline Road in Sutton West.
