York Region is closing the Fairy Lake access road and parking lots Oct. 5 to 8 for repaving work at the site.
The closure is part of a forcemain twinning project to improve the sewage system. The construction will close the access road from Water Street along Fairy Lake, as well as three parking lots.
“Due to the nature of the work, there will be some construction-related noise, though every effort to minimize it will be made,” York Region said in a news release.
All trails along Fairy Lake will remain open. Parking is available at the Riverwalk Commons lots, as well as along Cane Parkway.
The construction is part of wastewater system improvements, with York installing a new sewer pipe to move wastewater from the Newmarket Pumping Station to the Aurora Pumping Station. The upgrades also include modifications at the Newmarket station.
“This project will twin the existing forcemain to provide additional wastewater system reliability in Newmarket,” the region said on the project website.
The project, which should be completed by spring 2022, will also include tree plantings at Fairy Lake, as well as Queen and Charles streets.
The October construction will have no impact on water service. The region may reschedule the work due to weather or other conditions.
