Beginning this week, you can expect intermittent lane closures on Davis Drive from Yonge Street to Highway 404 in Newmarket until August.
Davis will remain open to traffic and access to residences and businesses will be maintained during the improvement and maintenance work that the Region of York is undertaking when traffic is reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Temporary lane restrictions will be in place Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., on no more than a few hundred metres of road on any one day. Some road work may occur at night.
The work will include: microsurfacing, in which an adhesive mixture containing small stones is applied to the road; and curb and catch (storm) basins repairs.
"We recognize there has been a lot of construction activity on Davis Drive in recent years, including the rapid transit lane (VIVA) project on Davis Drive that was completed in 2015, and we understand the inconvenience and frustration it can cause residents and motorists," a York Region notice states.
"However, this road work is required to preserve Davis Drive. Much like preventative (sic) maintenance performed on personal vehicles and homes, this road work will extend the life of the road for up to eight years and reduce future rehabilitation or construction costs by five to 10 times."
