East Gwillimbury, Richmond Hill restaurants, Markham bakery charged with food safety violations

Restaurants in East Gwillimbury and Richmond Hill, and a bakery in Markham were charged by York Region Public Health inspectors last week for food safety violations.

Milestones at 18162 Yonge St., East Gwillimbury was charged Monday, Nov. 4 for: use of handwashing station other than for handwashing of employees; and use of toxic substance in manner contaminating food.

Non-compliance items noted in the inspection report include: fail to provide thermometer in hot-holding equipment (corrected during inspection); fail to use handwashing station for reasons other than its intended use (corrected during inspection); fail to use chemicals/pesticides in a manner to prevent contamination of food/food contact surfaces (corrected during inspection); fail to maintain dishwasher wash water between 60°C and 71°C; fail to maintain equipment in good repair; and fail to provide lighting adequate to food preparation and cleaning.

Food handler education was provided on site and a re-inspection is to be conducted, the inspection report noted.

Yangs Fine Chinese Cuisine at 30 - 9665 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill was charged Thursday, Nov 7 for: food premise not maintained with clean floors in food-handling room; and fail to ensure equipment surface cleaned as necessary.

Non-compliance items noted in the inspection report include: fail to ensure equipment surface cleaned as necessary; fail to ensure floors are kept clean/in good repair; fail to ensure presence of certified food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation.

Food handler education was provided on site and a re-inspection is to be conducted, the inspection report noted.

A1 Bakery Inc. at 80-81 - 7393 Markham Rd., Markham was charged Nov. 7 for: food premise maintained in manner adversely affecting sanitary operation; fail to protect against entry of pests; and fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration.

Non-compliance items noted in the inspection report include: fail to properly store all food in a manner that prevents contamination or adulteration, including separating raw from ready-to-eat foods (corrected during inspection); fail to ensure equipment surface cleaned/sanitized as necessary (corrected during inspection); fail to maintain ventilation system clean; fail to ensure equipment surface cleaned as necessary; fail to provide adequate protection against the entrance of pests (corrected during inspection); fail to remove garbage/liquid waste when necessary to maintain sanitary condition; fail to collect garbage/liquid waste when necessary to maintain sanitary condition; fail to ensure floors are kept clean/in good repair; and fail to maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition.

Food handler education was provided on site, the inspection report noted.
