Police are investigating the death of a resident of a group home on Davis Drive near Newmarket last night as a homicide.
The woman was found without vital signs by officers responding to the East Gwillimbury house at about 9:55 p.m. Dec. 7 for a report of an assault, according to a York Regional Police news release.
Police said there had been an altercation between people inside the home.
The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital, police added.
The cause of death is not known and a post-mortem examination is expected to occur in the coming days, police said.
The York Regional Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death as a homicide.
Police said that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
