The former Newmarket teacher accused of sexual abuse by the Ontario College of Teachers is facing a new allegation of misconduct for sending nude photos of himself.
The college filed a notice in December for another disciplinary hearing against Ryan Imgrund for breaching the Ontario College of Teachers Act, alleging professional misconduct. The new allegation dates back to around August 2005, when Imgrund was employed by York Catholic District School Board. It alleges he sent four unsolicited naked photographs of himself to an 18-year-old female via MSN messenger.
The alleged breach has not been tested in a disciplinary hearing or court of law. NewmarketToday has not received a response from Imgrund as of publication time.
Imgrund, who left the college June 8, 2022 after getting suspended in April, already faces separate allegations of misconduct filed in August. In that filing, the college alleged that Imgrund acted inappropriately to four students on an athletic trip and had an inappropriate relationship with a student between 2017 and 2021 that included sending shirtless photos of himself.
Imgrund, who taught at Scared Heart Catholic High School, pushed back against those August allegations in a series of messages to former radio personality Dean Blundell.
“There are probably three or four real points, and even those are perfectly understood with context,” Blundell's website quotes Imgrund as saying in text messages. “The other 15+ things are complete fabrications.”
Unlike the previous allegations, the newest allegation from the college filed in December does not specifically identify as a student the 18-year-old sent allegedly sent naked photos, and refers to her as a friend of Imgrund and his family.
Regardless, the filing alleges that Imgrund is guilty of professional misconduct and that he “committed acts that, having regard to all the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.”
Imgrund gained acclaim as a self-titled biostatistician tracking the COVID-19 pandemic, with NewmarketToday and other media outlets interviewing him as an expert. He left York Catholic District School Board in March 2021, according to his LinkedIn, and he continued to track the pandemic afterwards. Imgrund has continued to post COVID-19 data on his website as of Dec. 5. But his website domain has gone defunct as of Jan. 6.
A hearing will be scheduled by the legal counsel of the college and Imgrund. The college website indicates that hearing dates are to be determined regarding both filings.
York Catholic District School Board has previously said Imgrund is no longer an employee, and that it cannot comment on a matter before the college.
