Car enthusiasts came out in force for a chance to showcase their luxury and antique rides for the first time in months in Newmarket Aug. 8.
More than 130 cars were put on display in the 18075 Leslie St. plaza parking lot for one of the first car shows in the area since the pandemic began.
Members of the local Highway 11 Cruisers Car Club, along with other vehicle owners, filled the parking lot Sunday with all kinds of vehicles. Hundreds of people attended to show off their rides and see the sights.
The event was organized by the auto shop Ziebart, alongside Coops Smokin’ Winghouse. Ziebart owner Jody Tomlinson said the event exceeded expectations.
“People need to get out and be able to see cars. Everybody's stuck in the house, they want to get out and do things,” Tomlinson said. “It’s spectacular.”
The event featured awards, prizes and free wings for the participants.
Howard Thomas said after two years since his last chance to take his car into a show, it felt good to return to one.
“This is what I love, taking the car, seeing other cars,” Thomas said. “I hope it (the pandemic) eventually ends so I can go back to car shows and cruise nights.”
The show attracted people from out of town. Jim Humber brought his 1957 Pontiac from Innisfil.
“It’s been a long couple of years of COVID and it’s nice to get out,” Humber said. “There’s some beautiful cars, it’s really great.”
Jason Curz brought some added colour to the show, with two pet parrots alongside his vehicle.
“Lots of fun, lots of cool cars,” Curz said. “People are being really friendly and social, so it’s nice.”
Ziebart said they plan to host another car show later this summer at the same place, though a date has yet to be determined.
“I’m just having the time of my life,” he said.
