Yellow Brick House is inviting residents to "break the silence" and join its annual intimate partner violence awareness walk Sunday, Nov. 3 at St. Andrew's College in Aurora.

Break the Silence - Step in My Shoes Walk also raises funds to support Yellow Brick House's life-saving services and prevention programs for women and children fleeing violence and abuse. The goal is to raise $100,000 in support of Yellow Brick House's Nights of Safety program, supporting unfunded shelter beds.

“Yellow Brick House services save lives by providing critical support and shelter to women and children escaping violent and abusive homes.” said Lorris Herenda, chief executive officer of Yellow Brick House, in a news release. “By walking we not only celebrate their strength, but we also show women and children that they matter, that we as a community care, and make their safety a priority. We show them that we are walking towards\ eradicating violence against women and children."

"Last year, an impressive $118,000 was raised for our public education program, a testament to the generosity and support of our community. This year, we aim to strengthen our efforts by raising vital funds for the Nights of Safety program, ensuring that women and children have a safe place to turn when they need it most," she added.

In addition to the walk, there will be a ceremony to honour the lives lost to domestic violence this past year, and a survivor will share her powerful story of resilience and hope.

The Break The Silence Step in My Shoes Walk starts at 10 a.m. with entertainment, including light refreshments and lunch.

Registration for the walk, from 10 a.m. to noon at 15800 Yonge St., is free at https://yellowbrickhouse-2024walk.raiselysite.com.
