The Orillia Museum of Art and History History Committee is excited to announce award-winning author Douglas Hunter as our speaker for the annual Carmichael Art History fundraiser. Hunter’s new book Jackson’s Wars: The Birth of the Group of Seven and the Great War is the subject of his presentation.
Hunter will give a captivating account via Zoom of the many wars Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson fought on and off the battlefields of Europe, with critics, collectors, public galleries and fellow artists, as he became one of the best-known Canadian artists of the 20th century.
Before he cast his lot with a group of like-minded Toronto artists, The Group of Seven, Alexander Young (A.Y.) Jackson was an artist with a growing international reputation, as well as a soldier and a war artist.
Douglas Hunter said, “It’s an honour to be chosen to deliver the 2022 Carmichael Art History Lecture, the annual fundraising event for the Orillia Museum of Art & History. I am really looking forward to the evening.”
And for OMAH it is an honour to have Douglas Hunter - a multi-nominated and award-winning author, who holds a PhD in History from York University as our speaker. He has written a number of books, including:
- Double Double: How Tim Hortons Became a Canadian Way of Life, One Cup at a Time
- The Bubble and the Bear – How Nortel Burst the Canadian Dream
- Beardmore: The Viking Hoax that Rewrote History
Funds raised from this event will be used towards purchasing much-needed equipment and supplies for the Dorothy Macdonald Creative Studio. Items needing to be replaced include: easels, paintbrushes, paints, art tables. OMAH is grateful for your support.
